Following the resounding debut album “Noble Art Of Desolation” (2025), which received consistently positive reviews from the international metal press - including #3 in the Rock Hard Soundcheck, 6/7 points from Metal Hammer, 85/100 Aardschok (NL) and #4 in the Metal.de Soundcheck - THE GREAT SEA now return with their second full-length “Silent Feeble Cries”, set for release on January 29th via AOP Records.

Founded in 2022 by Janosch Rathmer and Stefan Hackländer, THE GREAT SEA has since stood for an intense form of Black Metal that deliberately operates far removed from cheap clichés and superficiality. At its core, the music itself remains paramount, driven by an uncompromising desire to give voice to something that has meant so much to those who have followed this genre for years, even decades: the primal essence of nature. Through dynamic songwriting, in which solemn, expansive passages intertwine with fits of fanatical rage, an intrinsic sense of natural intoxication emerges.

The journey that began with “Noble Art Of Desolation” reached a first climax with the band's live debut at Prophecy Fest 2025, where THE GREAT SEA proved their live capabilities within the packed Balver Höhle. Their performance at Rock Hard Festival 2026 further cemented the fact that the band is capable of translating the atmosphere and intensity of their album to the stage with both force and finesse.
With “Silent Feeble Cries”, THE GREAT SEA open the next chapter, subtly yet decisively expanding upon their established musical foundation. Aggressive moods are pushed further than before, while moments of melancholy increasingly find their way into the songwriting. Much of the vocal cast remains unchanged, with lead vocalist A. once again joined by guest vocalists Azathoth (Gràb, ex-Dark Fortress) and Phil “sG” Jonas (Crone, ex-Secrets Of The Moon). Yet the arrival of new forces - most notably Pelle Åhman (ex-In Solitude), whose voice can be heard on the opening track (‘Thirteen Moons’) - allows the band to explore entirely new and intensely immersive atmospheres. Lyrically, the album once again ventures into the complex relationship between humanity and nature. Its songs embrace both ecstatic madness and the forces of decay, corruption and decline.

At its lyrical core, “Silent Feeble Cries” deals with humanity's reconnection with nature - the origin from which we once emerged and to which we will ultimately return. This connection is conceived as both reconciliatory and raw, intimate yet inevitable: a surrender to the eternal cycle of becoming and passing away, offering humanity something in return despite all the cruelty and transience inherent in existence and the certainty that we do not simply vanish without a trace, but remain part of something greater.
This is precisely the state THE GREAT SEA seek to make tangible through their music: not comfort in any conventional sense, but an intense, almost intoxicating moment in which, for the duration of the music, the listener once again becomes part of that primal nature itself.

A music video for the song ‘Thirteen Moons’, directed by David Gregory and filmed amid the breathtaking landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, further brings the album's central themes to life. Far removed from gratuitous visual effects and AI-generated mass-produced imagery, the video captures the stark, uncompromising beauty of the natural world, allowing the atmosphere of “Silent Feeble Cries” to resonate on a visual level as well.
While the drums, bass and the majority of the vocals were once again recorded in the band's own studio in Germany, THE GREAT SEA travelled to a remote cabin in snow-covered Sweden, not far from the great lakes Vänern and Vättern, to record the guitars and keyboards.

There, the band remained uncompromisingly true to its own sonic vision and DIY ethos. Janosch Rathmer handled the recording, production and mixing, shaping a sound that is vast and powerful while remaining raw, immediate and organic. Conventional drum samples were deliberately omitted entirely in order to preserve the natural dynamics and energy of the performances. Final mastering was handled by Tom Porcell, who brought the record to its final form with fresh ears and years of experience.
“Silent Feeble Cries” is a forceful affirmation of THE GREAT SEA's musical identity - far more than merely a follow-up album, it is a testament to the band's uncompromising artistic conviction and their determination to follow their own path to its absolute conclusion.
